rev13 doesn't play any files

On my Power Mac G5 with MacOS 10.5.8, rev13 doesn't play any files.

Attached is log (tried .avi files)

iMac MacOS 10.6.2 Snow Leopard

I have been unable to play a selection of WMV and AVI videos on my Mac. I had been able to play these approx 18 months ago. Many if not most play ok with Vlc.
So I downloaded "MPlayer OS X 2" firstly and then when that would not work I downloaded "MPlayer OSX Extended".
Neither will play these WMV and AVI vids in question. Both open the file, it seems, and some 'process' takes place as I can see the striped line moving. But after about 3 seconds it just stops and that's it.

For ONE MWV file I just happened to click on the expand to full screen button to discover it WAS playing ! except it wasn't opening up a window. I found this activity three more times with other vids but these were all vids that already played with Vlc.

Is this a Snow Leopard thing ?
