Does it need to be just '1' and '2' or would you settle for Command-1 or Control-2?

If you can accept using a modifier key like Cmd, Ctrl or Alt, then you can already do this with the Keyboard Shortcuts tab of the Keyboard & Mouse prefpane.

If you really need the keys to respond without the modifier keys then this won't help though.

Thanks for the information. I need it as numbers for it to register with my Harmony Remote Controller.

Maybe I'll just look into an Apple Remote and see if I can get that to work on my system.

Looking up just what keyboard shortcut keys do isn't easy in mplayer, nor is changing them. Having a simple menu listing all the possible functions and the keyboard keys mapped to them, with the possibility of changing them, would make it much easier to use all the functions of mplayer.
